Summary:The occurrence of anaphoric expressions in Eng free adjuncts is examined & the relevant surface organizations in these adjuncts are discussed. The possible combinations of anaphoric expressions & their antecedents in relation to the categorial heads of the free adjuncts are described. The organization of a generalized phrase structure grammar is briefly discussed & the mechanism needed to induce structures containing free adjuncts is studied. A rule system for free adjuncts is formulated & used to describe the occurrence of anaphoric expressions in Eng free adjuncts. 10 References. Z. Dubiel
