Nahuatl Direct and Mediated Possession: A Historical Explanation for Irregularities
It is argued that the possessive system in Nahuatl distinguished two types of possession--mediated and direct. The possessive system of Nahuatl is probably inherited from a Proto-Southern-Uto-Aztecan ancestor.
