Summary:A number of industrial unions have found it increasingly necessary to make internal adjustments in their governmental, machinery for the purpose of accommodating the special problems and desires of their skilled craft members. This article describes the various degrees to which different industrial unions have made formal and informal provision for the separate representation of craft interests. The influence on this development of such factors as union membership composition, wage comparisons, and bargaining structure is assessed. It is concluded that craft-dissatisfaction with compression of wage differentials, resulting in a "dramatic incident" of attempted disaffiliation, is the likely cause of a political adjustment within the union affected.
