Summary: | Borders play a major economic role even in the context of globalization, & the existence of a political border is in fact what defines the functioning & scope of international economy. The frontier between the US & Canada -- two countries whose economic integration has moved significantly forwards -- offers a clear example of the inexistence of a "borderless world." Markets liberalization & deregulation -- which have indeed been occurring -- do not entail the waning of the border as a spot of economic tension. The complexities of diverse border dynamics have become increasingly apparent as a result of 9/11, with a significant impact not only on Canada & the US, but also on Mexico. Steps towards an increasing economic integration are deemed more likely between Canada & the US, & with Mexico in a lesser extent. Tables, References. Adapted from the source document. |
