Summary: | We examined vegetation change over time at managed and unmanaged oak woodland sites located in Cook County, Illinois, forest preserves. The managed site (Cap Sauers Holding) was dominated by red and white oak (Quercus rubra and Q. alba) in 1995, and density was 313 trees ha⁻¹. Historical records indicate that white oak dominated the site and tree density was between 5 and 50 trees ha⁻¹. Management initiated in 1989 included prescribed burning and woody plant removal.
