The sharp dichotomy in Los Angeles' manufacturing between high and low skilled labor parallels the social and demographic divisions that exist in the metropolitan area. In accord with its image, Los Angeles plays a substantial role in the US motion picture industry. The film industry, high technology firms as well as production spurred by migration have allowed Los Angeles to avoid the broad industrial decline that has occurred in other parts of the US.
