Summary: | Although Latin America is not among the priorities of the new Obama government, Mexico is an exception. And not because Mexico is a priority for United States' foreign policy, but because all the themes on the bilateral agenda directly affect internal politics in the US. This article analyzes three key questions -- organized crime, economic integration and migration, and cooperation on the frontier -- and concludes that, while there will hardly be spectacular changes in the short run, there is reason to expect greater cooperation in these areas. But, for this to happen, both governments must abandon any exclusively national perspective and advance towards a truly strategic association. Adapted from the source document. |
