Summary: | Andrew Greeley & Michael Hout (1999) analyzed trends reflecting the afterlife beliefs of Jews & Catholics. Their conclusions are deemed statistically inaccurate. Consideration for the effects of age, period, cohort, & gender are absent. Moreover, because Greeley & Hout fail to accurately describe the beliefs of Orthodox, Conservative, & Reform Jews, all of their comparisons of the religious beliefs of Catholics & Jews are highly questionable. In short, the faulty research methods employed by Greeley & Hout cast doubt on nearly all of their conclusions. 2 Tables, 13 References. K. A. Larsen |
