Summary: | One hundred eighty students in introductory sociology & social psychology classes served as subjects for the investigation of the relationship of interpersonal attraction & dyad sex composition to performance (a mathematical puzzle & a verbal problem) & nonperformance (dyadic satisfaction) in the experimental situation. Mixed-sex & both-female dyads' performance benefited (although not significantly so) from attraction, although both-male dyads' performance did not. Attraction, however, has a positive effect on satisfaction across all dyadic combinations, regardless of sex or racial components. In both-female mixed racial dyads, this positive effect was statistically significant. Although no significant relationship was shown between attraction & performance, the demonstration of linkage between attraction & satisfaction provides confirmation of the social exchange framework. 3 Tables.
