He admits that criticizing Burawoy's argument in a cogent way is difficult because his (Burawoy's) position is not entirely clear. He also stresses that if public sociology encompasses the activities that he has surmised that it does, it is not a desirable thing, since it assumes an unjustified moral superiority, aside from jeopardizing the accomplishment of goals that would make sociology genuinely useful. |
