Summary: | Historians have typically distinguished between religious form of anti-semitism and the racist oriented modern antisemitism, which came to prominence in the late nineteenth century. Here, Marendy demonstrates that these forms of anti-semitism are more closely linked. Furthermore, he agues that without the historical background of the religious and social prejudice towards Jews shaped by Christians anti-semitism, the development and success of a racially infected modern anti-semitism in Europe would have been improbable. |
