Summary: | Discusses the contribution that Nancy Chodorow's The Reproduction of Mothering made to feminist thinking in the Netherlands by using psychoanalytic concepts to understand women's inequality. This feminist psychoanalysis is useful in understanding the dynamics of different ego boundaries of men (firm & impermeable) & women (permeable) & the dynamics of the mother-daughter relationship as it is replayed in adult female relations, such as between female students & their college professors. During a conference at the U of Utrecht on Daughtering & Mothering that the author organized, new dynamic insights about the mother-daughter relationship were created. Similarly, Chodorow's later thinking encompasses an emphasis on the dynamics of the motherly position, the mutuality of female subjectivity development, & the need to investigate mothering through a variety of cultural, economic, political, & historical contexts. 13 References.
