description This study explored the effects of parental support on adolescents' life satisfaction. From a sample of adolescents aged between 12 and 16 (n = 640), drawn from the National Survey of Children, three facets of parental support—intrinsic, extrinsic, and closeness—were identified, and their effects on child satisfaction were examined by using LISREL analyses. Structural equation models were specified for each parent-child dyad. Intrinsic support emerged as the strongest predictor of life satisfaction in all four models. Comparison of the four models showed no differences based on gender of child or parent; intrinsic support for both mothers and fathers was equally important in predicting life satisfaction of adolescent offspring.
