Summary: | Dialogues with Mauthausen survivors & with illiterate individuals as well as those focused on my own past have helped me to value the possibilities of remembrance. Meetings with illiterate persons centered my attention years ago on literacy abilities & the importance of discerning between memory & written account; more recently, my interviews with survivors of Nazi death camps have confronted me with the dilemma between the duty to remember & that to forget, between being faithful to the past & projecting for the future, relating memory & integrity. Finally, I approach some of my own experiences as an interlocutor. Adapted from the source document. |
