Summary:Both qualitative theoretical distinctions & quantitative data from a number of researchers are examined as means of arriving at an objective basis for choosing political strategies within the context of debates on the intermediary strata in modern capitalist societies. While the question of class is essentially qualitative, attempts to delineate classes in societies are based on quantitative dimensions.
