Summary: | New Zealand's foreign policy mission statement needs to be changed. Links with its traditional allies — the United Kingdom, the United States and Australia — must be restored. New Zealand's must demonstrate once again its absolute reliability in its relationships with its key partners. Trustworthiness is a quality that cannot be developed in isolation. New Zealand's security has suffered from a failure to establish properly ordered priorities. The way the government has made decisions on defence matters has caused real damage to relationships with Australia and the United States. New Zealand's foreign policy needs moral backbone to ensure that is clearer and more consistent. |
