Summary: | A study of the relationships between family affection patterns, as perceived by approximately 2,327 teenagers in grades 7-12 in 2 Washington communities, on 10 attitude & behavioral items. The analysis was based on responses from an anonymous questionnaire, 327 of which came from a small Ru county in eastern Washington & about 2,000 from the Ur fringe of Seattle. The degree of cooperation, fairness of discipline & democratic management of of the family were all signif'ly related to an affection scale based on consistency in the responses of teenagers to a battery of 8 questions. Other less consistently signif findings were related to the affection scale were (1) parents taking an interest in Sch work, (2) parents usually home evenings, (3) adequacy of parents' income, (4) educ of mother, (5) delinquency score (the higher the score, the less delinquent the teenager), (6) grades on last report card, & (7) f of church attendance.
