Description
Summary:Reviewing sociological formulations concerning youth as developed by the functionalist point of view--even when modified by the European tradition (K. Mannheim & A. Blaha)--illustrates the one-sidedness of the formulations. "Youth was unambiguously conceived as a reviving & progressive element of society ... myths & illusions arouse as concerns the significance of youth in social development, often formulated so that the boundary between the bearers of social progress & those of social regression appeared to be the boundary between the generations." These tendencies manifested themselves with particular strength in evaluating the role of students in society who, "in the view of some Western authors, were considered to be the most significant of youth in general." The research was limited mostly to the consciousness (culture) of U students (youth). The "theoretical postulates of Marxist sociology were neglected." Modified HA.
