Summary: | This research tested the hypothesis that fertility is directly related to the husband's relative income. Separate samples of blacks and whites were analyzed. Two measures of husband's relative income were found to be directly related to fertility for both blacks and whites even after controls are introduced for female's age at marriage, female's age at first birth, and duration of marriage. The statistical model we used explained about 45 per cent of the variance in the fertility of blacks and whites. |
