Summary: | Nontraditional religious interests & religious consciousness have been largely ignored by researchers in favor of traditional aspects of religion & indicators of religiosity such as church attendance. Among the problems inhibiting a focus on these neglected aspects is the lack of a methodological means enabling the study of consciousness. Religious consciousness & nontraditional interests could be explored through the use of "Q-sort" techniques & the thematic apperception test (TAT). As a pretest, the Spiritual Interest Q-Sort Apperception Test (S. Kozubal, "Spiritual Interest Q-Sort and Apperception Test," Unpublished, U of Maryland, College Park), consisting of 12 items depicting religious scenes ranging from the traditional to the nontraditional, was administered to 29 F students in a small Eastern Coll. Each S arranged & selected the cards, & developed stories about the people in the situations selected. Results indicate that neither the highly traditional nor the highly nontraditional meet the needs of the women tested. 1 Table. G. Hydoski. |
