Summary: | Too often the work of radical intellectuals denies the validity of conventional econ theory, but nonetheless is confined by its scope. Rather than accepting micro & macro econ theory as useful analytical devices for understanding market commodity & exchange relations & then grounding it in class analysis, the dominant tendency in left-wing scholarship is to maintain the emphasis on resource flows & try reversing the conclusions of conventional theory. This is particularly serious in efforts to compare the impact of the internat'l economy on Latin Amer & Canadian development, & the consequence is to fall into logical error & to make a shambles of historical interpretation.
