Description
Summary:Nature produces notable climatic fluctuations. These can be demonstrated in long-term instrumental records. Volcanic eruptions seem to exercise a marked influence. Suspicions that heat-absorbing carbon dioxide of anthropogenic origin have had an influence on global climate have not yet been substantiated. Man-introduced particulates, although more likely to affect climate, have only contributed slightly, if at all, to recent climatic trends. However, substantial changes have been brought about locally &, perhaps, regionally by Ur'ization. These include rising temperatures, reduced wind speeds, increased cloudiness, added rainfall, more fog & lowered visibilities. Some of these effects are caused by air pollutants which can affect cloud formation & rainfall. They might even redistribute or reduce rainfall downwind. Because of such end results prompt elimination of the pollutants involved is desirable as is the close surveillance of other man-made additions to the atmosphere that can conceivably affect global climate.
