Summary: | Amer's have perpetuated inaccurate images & att's concerning the Chinese that suggest the operation of soc-psychol'al anomalies & prevent the growth of healthy HR. Narrow stereotypic perceptions of & prejudice toward the Chinese have been so pervasive & tenable that Amer's of Chinese ancestry do not perceive themselves with a meaningful identity. Examination of Amer soc studies textbooks for elementary & secondary Sch's shows that Asian studies & the involvement of Asians in Amer history are barely mentioned or neglected completely; furthermore, what information is given reinforces stereotypic illusions. There is rising protest & counterresponse to the restrictive perceptions among younger Asian Amer's who seek the identity & acceptance they have been denied by others & themselves. 1 Table. HA. |
