Summary: | We owe much to the great artistic geniuses of the western world; but we cannot attribute in any way the prolonging of life span, the shortening of the work day, or cures for illness, to these men. We owe leisure to the progress of sci. The factors which will decide the fate of future generations (electronics, nuclear energy, nucleic acids, etc) should be part of every man's intellectual baggage. It is important that the role of sci in all facets of educ be emphasized, since the majority of the pop receives little sci'fic educ. Even though there is much hostility demonstrated towards sci & engineering, modern man cannot exclude them from his existence just as he cannot exclude the changes that they cause. J. Weiner. |
