Summary: | An unresolved conflict exists within Sri Lanka between the Sinhalese & Tamil peoples. The major Tamil organizations involved in this conflict are described, with emphasis on the Tamil United Liberation Front. As a result of Tamil nonparticipation, Parliament has collapsed as a national forum. For the Tamils, its place has been taken by citizens' committees. Foreign groups, especially the Indian state of Tamilnadu, have also been involved in the crisis. The conditions that must be attained to resolve the crisis are outlined. W. H. Stoddard |
