Summary: | A history & explanation of a list of words in Lason Akodesh (Judeo-Italian) falling into certain semantic groups, eg, Jewish life, Jewish religion, food, elimination, sex, death, the Catholic religion, & various disagreeable topics (violence, drunkenness, robbery, jail, illness, fear, grief, & madness). These few isolated lexical items survive & are incorported into Italian-Jewish everyday speech patterns as vestiges of a partially forgotten private lang. The taboo words are a major component of a vocabulary that survives among semispeakers. 1 Illustration. J. Wasserman |
