Description
Summary:Applying the device of the psychomedical case history, the crucial turning points in the life of a 60-year-old Trinidadian of East Indian ancestry, who is a recovering alcoholic, are described & analyzed to shed light on: (1) the particular cultural constraints against which this alcoholic career developed; & (2) the ways in which a typical middle class US model of alcoholism must be modified when studying manifestations of the disease in another culture. The relationship between the researcher & his subject is also explored, insofar as the narrative text describing the life is seen as a joint product of the interaction between the two. 14 References.
