Summary: | The four decades since the first atomic explosion have witnessed a wave of protest against "big science," nuclear power, & the military-scientific-industrial complex. Present-day antiscience is considered as a radical & rational phenomenon. Science & the antiscience movement in France at the beginning of the nineteenth century are discussed, & the relationship between progress & culture is considered. Science is seen as an integral part of culture, & it is futile to rely on a narrow or dogmatic view of culture to criticize or praise science. Modified HA |
