Description
Summary:The life & work of Gregory Bateson are reviewed. Bateson's work covered a wide range of fields & subjects, but from a consistent perspective: that of cybernetics & communications theory. He stressed the discovery of fundamental principles, rather than induction from raw data; he was thus critical of most of the social sciences. Bateson's view also led to moral conclusions to which he was strongly committed, notably the decentering of the individual & the acceptance of all cultures as equally valid. W. H. Stoddard.
