Description
Summary:The introduction & development of anthropology & sociology in China are briefly outlined, & the argument is made that strains between social theory & practice were reproduced & intensified in this new social & cultural milieu. Much intellectually stimulating work was done in the first half of the twentieth century in attempts to adapt Euro-American social theories to Chinese practical realities. Now, after the political eclipse in the 1950s & 1960s, it is possible that conditions may again favor creative work in the social sciences to help solve China's problems. 13 References. AA.
