Summary: | Data from the National Longitudinal Survey of Youth were analyzed to determine whether the impact of adolescent childbearing on women's subsequent contact with the welfare system differed for Black and White women. Results of a path analysis indicate that there were distinctive differences between young Black and White women in the way early childbearing influences welfare receipt over an 8-year period. These differences are not fully apparent unless both direct and indirect effects of predictor variables are taken into account. |
