Description
Summary:Coll students reported sources of self-knowledge in questionnaires (N = 118) & interviews (N = 42) in which they generated self-descriptive adjectives & reasons for their choices. Self-observation appeared in Ss' reports more frequently than did either feedback from others or social comparison by a proportion of about 7:2:1; average rankings of importance followed the same order. Two mechanisms that could account for the observed results are discussed: motivational bias involving self-presentation, & information-processing errors due to focus of attention & underuse of consensus information. 34 References.
