Summary: | Analysis of a 1974 representative survey of the United States population indicates that 89% of southern & 97% of northern white parents accepted some form of black-white school desegregation. Generally, males who were college-educated, or younger, were more accepting of desegregation. However, most white parents, whether southern or nonsouthern, objected to specific instances of desegregation in which blacks would form 50% or more of the student body. In other words, they rejected anything more than token racial integration on the level of the local school. 5 Tables. Modified HA. |
