Summary: | Rival historiographies and rival groups' ethnohistories have huge potential to lay the basis for political conflict in post-communist East Europe. Examines one example: the Donbas region between Ukraine and Russia, part of Ukraine since 1991, but still the subject of bitter argument between the two states. Analyses Ukrainian historiography c.1988-94, and its counterpart among local Russophiles in the Donbas. The two versions of history are mutually contradictory at almost every point. |
