Summary: | This paper examines the impact on live attendance of the large increase in college football telecasts resulting from the 1984 U.S. Supreme Court ruling granting the individual schools the property rights to college football telecasts. Support is found for the NCAA position that controls are needed to protect gate attendance. While own-team telecasts increase attendance for major football programs, the net impact of the general increase in telecasts is to reduce attendance. |
