Description
Summary:(Originally published as "Penser la politique sans philosophie de l'histore: Arendt et Merleau-Ponty" [in Revue Esprit: Traversees du XXe siecle (Survey of Thought across the Twentieth Century), Paris: La Decouverte, 1988, 56-79].) Differences in the role that history plays in the political theories of Hannah Arendt & Maurice Merleau-Ponty are addressed. Specifics from their respective works are examined to conclude that "Merleau-Ponty addressed the truth that flourishes at every moment of human history, while Arendt prophesies a truth promised to all & within reach of everyone, but is paradoxically, ungraspable, apparently lost.".
