Description
Summary:Spanish folklore, as that of other European countries, is characterized by paradoxes, which reflect the paradoxes & ambiguities of life itself, & thus serve as a means of education, in history, science, & the arts. The history of folklore has become an endeavor for the intellectual elite. The folkloric discourse has fulfilled four functions in Spain: (1) an expressive function, reflecting people's values; (2) a legitimating function, especially through the ambiguous concept of tradition; (3) a pedagogic function, in teaching children about their homeland; & (4) a function of social control.
