Summary:Due perhaps to the alcoholism treatment industry's need to find a diagnosable, treatable illness, or due perhaps to society's tendency to blame the victim, especially the female victim, the co-dependency label is now flung about with wild abandon. The present article looks at this label and draws from popular and scholarly literature to show that the concept of co-dependency should be withdrawn.
