Summary: | Reflects on themes arising from political violence in Colombia, showing that violent acts create radical confusion of the markers & boundaries of politics & block the expression of belonging in society. It is contended that the fundamental friend vs enemy division in global state relationships has changed & the practice of violence diversified, causing a multitude of small conflicts & loss of political significance. A lack of global methods for regulating society then leads populations to join in pacts & favor local sovereigns, whose armed forces are capable fo ensuring minimum order. This results in flowing networks with diverse sources of power. These complex circumstances, it is concluded, prevent any attempt at assessing the situation. Adapted from the source document. |
