Summary: | Cultural differences in religiosity, age at beginning to drink, parental drinking and approval of drinking and quantity/frequency of consumption were examined among college students from Oklahoma (N=534) and Western Australia (N=178). Correlation and regression analyses were used to study the relationship of these variables to problems associated with drinking. Legal and religious restrictions against alcohol usage were generally found to be greater in Oklahoma, but Western Australia exercised more stringent penalties against drinking. The two groups were similar in quantity-frequency of consumption, but Oklahomans reported more problem behavior as a result of drinking. |
