Description
Summary:So-called corporate campaigns might be best described as the practice of predatory unionism. The purpose of the campaigns, as stated by the AFL-CIO and its affiliates, such as the UFCW, is to use whatever means necessary - propaganda campaigns, abuse of the regulatory system, and picketing - to either drive up the costs of and prices of nonunion firms or to drive them into bankruptcy. The UFCW's corporate campaign against Food Lion is harmful to consumers, will cost thousands of jobs if successful, and is essentially a clever public relations campaign designed to bankrupt Food Lion or, at the very least, to preserve the market share of unionized stores.
