Summary: | This article examines reproductive health programs that have been implemented in various refugee populations. The World Health Organization Minimum Initial Service Package (MISP) provides a set of high-priority reproductive health activities that should be implemented at the start of a refugee crisis. The International Rescue Committee (IRC) & the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) have used MISP successfully to reduce reproductive health-related morbidity & mortality during crises in Bosnia, Afghanistan, Congo-Brazzaville, & other countries. Safe motherhood, family planning, sexual & gender-based violence, sexually transmitted diseases (STDs), & the special needs of adolescents are areas of high priority. Many related initiatives are currently in progress by governments, the UN, & nongovernmental organizations. 26 References. J. R. Callahan |
