Summary: | The economy has greater resources to handle the needs of a large number of baby boomers who were born between 1946 and 1964. A comparison of the ratio of dependent people and working people shows that the dependency ratio of baby boomers is less than that of the aged people in the 1950s and 1960s. While the average life expectancy has improved, the economy continues to grow. Therefore, a social safety net for old age is a necessary item of social welfare. The policymakers should also retain basic entitlements for the the poor despite huge budget deficits. |
