Summary: | An evaluation study was conducted to examine the effects of participation in the Community of Caring program for pregnant and parenting teens. The study relied on a quasi-experimental design that compared pretest, posttest, and delayed posttest measures for nonparticipants against those with low and high levels of participation in the program. The results suggest some positive net effects of Community of Caring participation relative to the comparison group at one site, but ambiguous effects at the other site. The relatively small number and magnitude of effects, and their dissipation over time, are generally consistent with other studies. The study provides a useful model of quasi-experimental evaluation in terms of its design, comparison groups, dosage assessment, multiple measures, and controls for pretest and demographic differences between treatment and comparison groups. |
