Summary: | The dominant discourse -- that training leads to employment, & more training leads to better employment -- is refuted. A study in progress is drawn on to analyze the relation between training & employment from a broader perspective than used in previous studies, considering the social context & the overall dimensions that define training. Interview, questionnaire, on-site observation, & secondary data gleaned from employees of two organizations in Catalonia, Spain, suggest that formal training is less important to employment than are factors such as work experience, socialization, social networks, worker strategies & behaviors, & expectations about attitudes. These have a significant bearing on labor insertion against a backdrop of sustained structural unemployment. 27 References. Adapted from the source document. |
