Description
Summary:Examines the place of German philosopher Christian Wolff in English-language social sciences. An overview of the literature pertaining to his contributions in this area positions him in the prehistory of modern social science; in addition, an extensive review is presented of Wolff's texts, interpretations of his theories, & reference materials dedicated to him. Although Wolff maintains a consequential place in the disciplines of political science & psychology, his contributions to anthropology, geography, & sociology are negligible; however, his role in the development of German education remains substantial. It is argued that philosophers played a significant role in the transition of the foundation of social thought from philosophy to science. It is concluded that Wolff's prominent position in the prehistory of modern social science will increase. 2 Appendixes, 267 References. Adapted from the source document.
