Description
Summary:This article provides an overview of the evaluation strategy being used by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) to monitor and improve a broad, national program of HIV prevention among in-school youth. Selected findings from each of the evaluation components are presented. The evaluation strategy includes national, state, and local surveillance of risk behaviors, health outcomes, and school HIV-related policies and programs. Additionally CDC assists state and local departments of education in evaluating the quality and effectiveness of their HIV-related policies, educator training, and curricula. Finally, CDC conducts evaluation research on state-of-the-art, multi-component, school-based interventions to reduce the risk of HIV infection.
