Description
Summary:A risk of impoverishment currently looms over an important number of Latin American middle-income households. This situation demands a critical revision of the main conceptual & methodological proposals regarding social vulnerability developed in the region's context in the last decade. It is necessary to develop a conceptual & methodological approach consistent with the probabilistic & dispositional nature of the risk perspective. The authors, elaborating on an argument from a previous paper, advance a new methodological strategy with such attributes & illustrate its application in a study of the risk of impoverishment in Costa Rica carried out in 2003.
