Description
Summary:The practices of an adolescent diversion project are described, & the program's effectiveness is evaluated. Seventy-three youths were randomly assigned to the project or to a control group that received treatment as usual by the court. Project youth were assigned to work with Coll undergraduates for 18 weeks. The 2 basic intervention techniques employed were behavioral contracting & advocacy. Project youth were further randomly assigned to 1 of 2 intervention conditions within the project: a multifocus group applied the above strategies to a variety of social domains of the youth, while a family condition group focused entirely on the family. Research results focused on standard outcome criteria (police, court, & school data) as well as on the degree to which the experimental conditions differed in practice. 1 Table, 3 Figures, 31 References.
