Summary:Just as crossing academic frontiers may mean a restatement of givens in the terms of another discipline & show that facts & theories are not absolutes, approaches to topics in this journal, Psychology & Developing Societies, may need restatement. Two motivations are vying for control in the journal: the first (international) motivation is to create a Third World program within Western psychology to correct the Western-oriented psychological tradition, while the second (national) motivation is to be of use to society. It is argued that this latter motivation is historically naive, & a transformation of Third World psychology is supported. M. Pflum
